Stone Sculptor Supplies' History

Carving Stone Supplies Online StoreStone Sculptors Supplies has grown from one woman's wish for a stone carving tool and stone resource on the west coast in the '80's to an internationally known internet company, selling tools for stone carvers worldwide.

Lenore Aster's dream was born in Escondido, California, and with her husband and some stone carving friends, expanded to include stone imported from Brazil, India, Italy and Mexico along with United States sources and tools imported from Italian craftsmen (Milani & Cuturi), Strauss Diamond tools imported from Israel and other tool makers worldwide.

Her idea is still alive today. She included 10 years of workshops for students, guided by Ante Marinovic, which continued here in Northern California and Pietrasanta Italy until 2014.

Lenore Aster was especially proud of Milani. Milani tools are particularly good for plaster, and Styrofoam. They can be used on all kinds of wood. Cuturi Hammers & chisels can be used for masonry work, concrete and wood roughing.

Ask us about Milani's handmade masonry and restoration tools. We can special order these tools, or provide you with more information. Just email or call.

We (Patricia Sargent and Karen Ryer) bought the whole company from Lenore in 2005, and moved 350,000 pounds of stone and tools to our hilltop retreat in Guerneville, California, where we continued supplying stone, tools and classes until 2013, when we moved to Sebastopol and discontinued supplying stone.

Karen has taught stone carving for many years, so if you have questions on a specific project, call her and she can advise you the tools you need.

We have continued our international tool business and I (Karen) continue to teach on Fridays & Saturdays in my new studio. Pat & I still operate as a dynamic duo, assisted by Allan, who is back-up office-guy, order-filler, beast of burden. Sometimes he will answer the phone and take orders and ship, so, if a man answers, don't hang up.
